The Morris Arboretum hosts annual Moonlight & Roses gala on Friday, June 6, 2014

MOONLIGHT_ROSES001A 1.The Morris Arboretum’s Moonlight & Roses took place on Friday,June 6, 2014. The event began with cocktails in the Rose Garden, followed by dinner and dancing. Moonlight & Roses was catered by Brûlée Catering and the Janis Nowlan Band provided music for dancing. This year’s honoree was Jessie Hill. Jessie Hill and her family have been steadfast supporters of the Morris Arboretum for more than 40 years and have supported key Arboretum programs and projects including ghe education program, the ”Out on a Limb” exhibit’s Squirrel Scramble and the construction of the Horticulture Center at Bloomfield Farm. Moonlight & Roses has helped to build and maintain the Morris Arboretum’s outstanding living collections and unique gardens. Funds raised through the 2014 gala will help to further the Arboretum’s mission of connecting, plants and people and place. TLLCCF_GOLF001A 1. On Monday, June 9, 2014, Terri Lynne Lokoff Child Care Foundation held its annual golf, bridge and games classic at Green Valley Country Club in Lafayette Hill. In addition to a golf outing, the event featured boutiques, brunch and a silent auction. TLLCCF is a nonprofit 501 (c) (3) organization dedicated to improving early care and education. Their role is to enhance the lives of children and staff in the child care community, and to heighten the awareness of the public to the need and definition of quality child care. They are a National Foundation supporting child care teachers and quality early care and education programs throughout the United States. The TLLCCF’s annual Golf, Bridge and Games Classic is a successful fundraiser for the Foundation. Over the years to ensure that it continues to be a popular event with theirsupporters, they have added many features to make it fun, exciting and fresh. Regulars enjoy and look forward to the day of golf, duplicate and social bridge, mahjong, canasta, boutique shopping, silent auction and a raffle. The Franklin Institute’s Nicholas and Athena Karabots Pavilion holds gala celebration

 1. The Nicholas and Athena Karabots Pavilion, the largest and most significant expansion in the history of The Franklin Institute, hosted a gala opening celebration and ceremony on Thursday, June 12, 2014. The 53,000 square-foot, $41 million dollar pavilion, named in honor of the lead donors whose commitment to science and technology education brought the project to fruition, is home to the museum’s largest permanent exhibition, ”Your Brain,” a climate-controlled traveling exhibition gallery, a state-of -the-art conference center and an expansive new education center. The facility will open to the public in grand-scale fashion on Saturday, June 14. The gala event featured hands-on science, tours of the Nicholas and Athena Karabots Pavilion, a Tapas-style dinner, live entertainment, dancing and the Living Statues who welcomed arriving guests to the event. World Cup 2014 celebration party takes place at The Hub in Philadelphia

1.  On Friday, June 13, 2014 AL DÍA News Media, Comcast and media partner, the Philadelphia Daily News hosted an unparalleled private World Cup celebration and watch party at The Hub Commerce Square, Philadelphia. From 2:30 p.m. through the conclusion of the last game of the day, guests were able to watch each game live. The party began with the rematch of the 2010 finals, Spain v Netherlands and wrapped up at the conclusion of the final game of the day, Chile v Australia. Both games were streamed live on multiple flat screens. All guests enjoyed catering from Starr Events and an open bar featuring Caipirinha’s from Leblon cachaça (a Brazilian favorite), Yard’s beer, Moletto prosecco, Dad’s Hat rye, and more. There were also raffles to win awesome prizes! All of the proceeds benefit the AL DÍA Foundation, a 501c3 nonprofit organization supporting scholarships for students of journalism and promoting excellence in multimedia and multicultural journalism. InLiquid Art + Design holds preview party for ‘Art for the Cash Poor’

1. On Friday, June 13, 2014 InLiquid Art + Design in Northern Liberties held a preview party for ”Art for the Cash Poor.” It was also a meet-and-greet with the artists and a fundraiser for AIDS Fund, giving guests an exclusive sneak-peek at the festivities that followed over the weekend. ”Art for the Cash Poor,” is an annual summer sale that operates under the premise that everyone can be an art collector. The weekend-long fair allows attendees to navigate a space bursting with art vendors, live musical performances, culinary curiosities and an outdoor beer garden. The event began in 1999 as an exposition of quality work at affordable prices, with everything from jewelry, paintings, photography, fashion and ceramic ware priced at $199 and under. InLiquid is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization committed to creating opportunities and exposure for visual artists while serving as a free, online public hub for arts information in the Philadelphia area. The event marked the completion of a $50 million redevelopment project. 1.  This spring brought flowers to some parts of the world, devastating floods to others and damage to the cities and villages throughout the Balkan region. Entire cities are under water, and friends and neighbors could use all the help they can get. Eurocircle held a benefit for Balkan Flood victims on Wednesday, June 18, 2014 at the Pyramid Club in Philadelphia. All funds raised during the event will benefit the victims. Thos. Moser celebrates the success of the 118th Devon Horse Show & Country Fair

 STRAFFORD, PA – On Sunday, June 8, members of the Devon Horse Show and Country Fair Executive committees were invited to attend a celebration of the 118th Devon Horse Show & Country Fair at the Thos. Moser showroom in WayneStrafford, PA. The 2014 show, which concluded the week prior, marked the second year that Thos. Moser has partnered with Devon.  In addition to the Fall Festival of Homes, conducted in October, Thos. Moser was a lead sponsor of First Night at Devon.

“The Devon Horse Show and Country Fair is a wonderful Philadelphia tradition,” said Sue Linker, manager of the Thos. Moser showroom. “We are honored to be a part of this long-standing event, benefitting the Bryn Mawr Hospital. We have been a friend and neighbor of the event for many years and are thrilled to “jump the wall” this year, joining in the fun in the ring as well as in town.”

While enjoying cocktails and hors d’oeuvres, guests learned about the design and craftsmanship processes that produce each Thos. Moser piece.  Eric Corkhill, a member of the Devon Horse Show Trophy Committee and husband of Devon Country Fair Co-Chairman, Helen Corkhill, participated in Thos. Moser’s “Customer in Residence” program in early May. Participants spend a week at the Thos. Moser workshop in AuburnFreeport, Maine working side-by-sidewith master cabinetmakers craftsman to create their own family heirloom.
“It was a wonderful experience,” “said Corkhill, “everything at Thos. Moser is so well done.  The thing that I really took away, other than a gorgeous piece of furniture, is how their commitment to quality informs every step of the process, from wood selection to the final finish.  Even as a lay person, I was expected to meet those very exacting standards.  It’s a privilege to get to feel the sense of pride these craftsmen do every day.”

The Devon Horse Show and Country Fair was established in 1896 as a one day horse show and has grown into the largest and oldest multi-discipline, outdoor horse show in the country.  The eleven day event attracts over 100,000 visitors each year and offers top level equestrian competition and a Country Fair with shopping, food and fun for the whole family.  Since 1919, proceeds of the Devon Country Fair have benefitted Bryn Mawr Hospital. To date, nearly $15 million dollars has been donated to the hospital. When adjusted for inflation, that is over $50 million dollars.  The Devon Country Fair is run entirely by volunteers. Organized by Betsy Hummel, President of the Friends of Rittenhouse and event chairs Janice Birenbaum and Nina Stanley, the 31st anniversary black-tie gala over 500 guests attended,  including notable business and charitable leaders, politicians and residents of the Square.  Entering the ballroom with stunning décor provided by Evantine Design, guests enjoyed the sounds by Eddie Bruce Band while dining on delectable bites and dinner by Stephen STARR Events. Funds raised from the Ball on The Square will support the one million dollar restoration and preservation campaign launched by the Friends of Rittenhouse Square last year. These improvements will allow residents, locals and visitors to fully enjoy the beauty of the park year round. The Friends of Rittenhouse Square, a 501(c)(3), non-profit organization, was formed in 1976 with a mission to preserve, protect and beautify Rittenhouse Square. Funds raised by the 2014 Ball on The Square will be directed towards the preservation of Rittenhouse Square. Rittenhouse Square is not only one of Philadelphia’s most valued landmarks, but it is also a focal point for the neighborhood, a meeting place for residents and workers, and an oasis of nature and tranquility in an urban setting. BARNES_EXHIBIT002 The Board of Trustees of the Barnes Foundation hosted a special VIP preview event for members of the Circles to celebrate the opening of ”The World Is an Apple: The Still Lifes of Paul Cézanne.” The event began with a lecture by Curator Benedict Leca followed by an exhibition  preview and brunch reception. Cézanne vowed to astonish Paris with an apple and this summer, ”The World Is an Apple” will amaze Philadelphia.  The Barnes is the only US venue for this must-see exhibition dedicated to Cézanne’s groundbreaking works in the still-life genre. The Barnes Foundation was established by Albert C. Barnes in 1922 to “promote the advancement of education and the appreciation of the fine arts and horticulture.” The Barnes holds one of the finest collections of Post-Impressionist and early Modern paintings, with extensive works by Pierre-Auguste Renoir, Paul Cézanne, Henri Matisse, Pablo Picasso, Henri Rousseau, Amedeo Modigliani, Chaim Soutine and Giorgio de Chirico, as well as American masters Charles Demuth, William Glackens, Horace Pippin and Maurice Prendergast, Old Master paintings, important examples of African sculpture and Native American ceramics, jewelry and textiles, American paintings and decorative arts and antiquities from the Mediterranean region and Asia. The Barnes Foundation’s Art and Aesthetics programs engage a diverse array of audiences. HOS_GALA001 1. Home of the Sparrow’s 19th annual, “Jazz at Brushwood” fundraiser took place at Brushwood Stable in Malvern on Saturday, June 21 2014. This year’s theme was “A Red Carpet Affair” which boasted the glitz and glamour of the red carpet in a fun-filled and elegant atmosphere.  Guests enjoyed fabulous hors d’oeuvres and a delicious buffet dinner prepared and served by ACF Philadelphia – Delaware Valley Chefs Association. The evening’s entertainment included the incredible sounds of Big Ric Rising. Big Ric has been entertaining audiences with his dynamic and interactive performances for over 15 years. Additionally, there were both live and silent auctions. The silent auction had something for everyone, including wonderful weekend getaways, dinner for two at some of the area’s finest restaurants, artwork, and jewelry to name a few. The live auction included several vacation destinations including a Deer Valley Ski Trip. Serbs gather in Philadelphia to celebrate ’200 Years of Serbs in America’

SERBS_GATHERING001 1. The anniversary celebration of “200 Years of Serbs in the United States” brought together Serbian-Americans and friends of Serbs throughout the North American continent. The anniversary celebration took place from June 27 to June 29, 2014 in Philadelphia. Philadelphia was chosen as the site for the celebration because the first Serb, Djordje Sagic, later known as George Fisher, arrived in the United States through the port of Philadelphia. The primary goal of this historical event in the United States was not only to celebrate the arrival of the first Serb, but also to celebrate Serbian culture, arts, sciences, sports and business. The Tesla Science Foundation, a 501 (c) (3) nonprofit organization, hosted the celebration. On Saturday, June 28,  The Tesla Science Foundation hosted a reception and dinner at Arch Street Meeting House in Olde City, Philadelphia. On Thursday, June 26, 2014,  the Philadelphia Museum of Art hosted a conversation with internationally celebrated architect Frank Gehry,  and a viewing of the Facilities Master Plan.  ”Making a Classic Modern” is the title of Frank Gehry’s Master Plan and PMA supporters and board members were invited to imagine the future of the Museum. Presented for the first time in this exhibition is the comprehensive design for the renewal and expansion of the museum by Frank Gehry. Best known for the expressive sculptural forms of buildings such as the Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao, Spain, Gehry’s approach to this project is dramatically different and virtually unique. It focuses on the transformation of the interior of the main building through the renovation of beloved spaces like the Great Stair Hall, dramatic improvements on how visitors will enter and move through the Museum, the creation of a substantial amount of new space for the display of more works of art and a new Education Center.  Carefully detailed, large-scale models, architectural drawings, photographs, and videos are featured in the exhibition in the Dorrance Special Exhibition Galleries, first floor. George Omiros, LLS’s Executive Vice President and Chief Campaign & Field Development Officer, opened with remarks about LLS’s critical mission to cure blood cancers and improve the quality of life of patients and their families, and the impact that LLS is having in the Philadelphia region, including more than 1,000 patients receiving assistance in the amount of $2.2 million in 2013. 1.  Diner en Blanc supporters gathered at Terrain in Glen Mills for a garden party to prepare for this summer’s elegant Parisian pop-up picnic celebration in Philadelphia. Attendees enjoyed a St.  Germain wine tasting and sampled picnic-ready recipes. Favorite outdoor centerpieces were showcased during the event and Susan Hutchinson of Fleurishing offered tips for summer entertaining. Guests played a round of pétanque, the classic French garden game and a raffle to win registration for a table for two to Diner en Blanc was offered. Diner en Blanc  is set for August 21, 2014. The “dinner in white,” is like a gustatory Brigadoon, equal parts mystery, anachronism and caprice! Now attended by thousands at some of the best-known Parisian spaces, it began humbly in 1988. That year, François Pasquier returned to Paris after a few years abroad and held a dinner party to reconnect with friends. 1. On Saturday evening, July 12, 2014 Valerie Crooker Clemens, a past Miss Maine, hosted The 25th Miss Maine Invitational, a fun-filled and glamorous event. Residents and personalities from the area acted as judges and “Press Corps”, as they met and interviewed state titleholders who will be competing for the coveted crown of Miss America in January 2014 in Atlantic City. The experience will help to prepare the young ladies for the rigorous competition they will encounter at the Pageant. The Miss Maine Invitational included state titleholders from Maine, Rhode Island, District of Columbia, New Hampshire, Missouri, Wyoming, Hawaii and Connecticut (all competing for the title of Miss America 2014), as well as Miss Pennsylvania’s Outstanding Teen (who will be competing for Miss America’s Outstanding Teen).
